During this challenging time with a severe food shortage, Sun Liang managed to survive by drinking river water, melting snow and even eating toothpaste, according to Jimu News.
Sun embarked on his solo hiking adventure on Feb. 8, into the Qinling, a prominent east-west mountain range in Shaanxi Province, known for its average altitude of around 2,500 meters and diverse plant and wildlife.
Two days later, Sun lost contact with his family when his electronic devices ran out of battery. Stranded in the wilderness, he walked downstream along a creek, falling multiple times and sustaining a fracture in his right arm.
To shield himself from the cold and strong winds, Sun stayed behind a large rock and created a bed from dry straw and leaves. He was finally found by the rescue team on Feb. 17, the South China Morning Post reported.
In the last two decades, over 50 hikers have been reported missing or have tragically lost their lives on this treacherous trail.
