Vietnamese football stars have spent billions of dong building luxurious houses in their hometowns as a tribute to their parents. (VND1 billion = US$39,240)
Nguyen Van Toan
During the 2023 Lunar New Year, Van Toan showcased his newly built mansion in his hometown of Thach Khoi Ward, Hai Duong City in the northern eponymous province. The two-story house, designed in a neoclassical style, has a floor area of 270 square meters per level and was constructed starting in 2022. This home is Toan's gift to his parents after his success in both football and business.
Born in 1996, Toan is one of Vietnam's top strikers. He won the AFF Cup twice in 2018 and 2022. After leaving Hoang Anh Gia Lai in 2022, he had an unsuccessful stint at South Korea's Seoul E-Land. In 2023, he returned to Vietnam to play for Nam Dinh FC and helped the team win the 2023-2024 V-League 1 championship.
Nguyen Hoang Duc
In 2022, Duc revealed his family's newly built four-story house in Hai Duong Province. According to his parents, he contributed 80% of the total construction cost. The house, featuring two facades and located on a main road, spans approximately 72.5 square meters and boasts a modern and luxurious design.
Duc currently plays for Phu Dong Ninh Binh FC after leaving The Cong Viettel in Oct. 2024. The 1998-born midfielder reportedly received a signing bonus of up to VND30 billion ($1.18 million) for his three-year contract with Ninh Binh.
Throughout his career, Duc won two SEA Games gold medals with Vietnam's U23 team (2019, 2022) and was a key player in Vietnam's 2024 ASEAN Cup victory. He also won the V-League 2020 title with Viettel and was twice the Vietnam Golden Ball winner in 2021 and 2023.
In 2018, Chinh built a house in his hometown of Xuan Dai Commune, Tan Son District, Phu Tho Province, which borders Hanoi, as a tribute to his mother. The three-story house, built on a 100-square-meter plot, is one of the most prominent homes in the area. After his father passed away in 2016, Chinh vowed to take the best care of his mother.
Born in 1997 and trained at PVF Academy, Chinh was part of the Vietnam U23 team that finished as runners-up in the 2018 AFC U23 Championship. He also won a SEA Games gold medal in 2019 and helped Vietnam lift the AFF Cup in 2018.
In recent years, Chinh has been absent from the national team due to a dip in form. He currently plays for Binh Duong FC in the V-League.
Pham Tuan Hai
In April 2024, Hai shared images of the house he built for his parents in his hometown of Ha Nam Province, another Hanoi neighbor. The modern three-story house sits on a 150-square-meter plot. Sources suggest that Hai spent billions of dong on its construction and interior furnishings.
Born in 1998, Hai plays for Hanoi FC and was part of Vietnam's ASEAN Cup 2024-winning squad. He is considered one of the country's top strikers and won the Vietnam Silver Ball award in 2023. In July 2024, he extended his contract with Hanoi FC for another three years, reportedly receiving a VND28 billion signing bonus.
Tran Dinh Trong
In late 2023, Trong and his family inaugurated their new house in Da Ton Ward, Gia Lam District, Hanoi. The four-story home, designed in a modern architectural style with brown and white tones, was a special gift from Trong to his parents, as he often has to travel for matches. The family managed to complete the house just in time to move in and celebrate the 2023 Lunar New Year.
Born in 1997 and trained at the Hanoi Youth Football Training Center, Trong helped Hanoi FC win two V-League titles (2018, 2019) and two National Cups (2019, 2020).
Regarded as one of Vietnam’s best center-backs, he was a trusted choice for coach Park Hang-seo during the 2018 AFC U23 Championship and AFF Cup campaigns. However, due to injuries, he has been absent from the national team for the past three years. He currently plays for Cong An Ha Noi FC.
