Nguyen Hoang Duc won the ball to prevent Thailand from counter-attacking, then dribbled past two opposite players before passing it down the left flank to Nguyen Van Vi, who tried to enter the box. However, Van Vi could not keep up as a Thailand defender stopped him.

    GOAL! Vietnam scored!

Tuan Hai, the only change that coach Kim Sang-sik made to the lineup compared to the first leg, made a difference. He put great pressure on the defenders before making a run to break the offside trap and chip it over goalkeeper Patiwat Khammai.

In the first leg of the final, Vietnam beat Thailand 2-1 at Viet Tri Stadium thanks to a brace from naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son. The only goal of Thailand was scored by center-back Chalermsak Aukkee near the end of the match.

The away goal rule is not used in ASEAN Cup this year. That means Vietnam will enter the match with a one-goal lead, while Thailand will have the home advantage.

Xuan Son is aiming for the player of the tournament and top scorer awards, having already scored 7 goals in 4 matches. If Vietnam win the title, he is likely to receive both of the awards.
