Vietnam began the 2024 ASEAN Cup with a convincing 4-1 against Laos. Meanwhile, Indonesia have played two matches, beating Myanmar 1-0 and drawing Laos 3-3 in a thrilling game.
The draw raised concerns about Indonesia's capability, as they didn't have the strongest team full of naturalized players and most of the squad are U21 members. For this reason, before the match with Vietnam, Indonesian media worried that the team might suffer a heavy defeat as their opponent brought their best players to the tournament.
Vietnam also have the home advantage and were benefited from the schedule, as they got a much longer resting time than Indonesia.
