Girlfriend reveals secret to strong relationship with Filipino Olympic champion Carlos Yulo

San Jose credits their connection to one simple yet vital element: communication.

"Communication is key," she told One Sports in an interview last week. Whether it's through heartfelt letters, non-verbal gestures, or even TikTok dance collaborations, the couple has found ways to keep their relationship vibrant and resilient.

Acknowledging each other's individuality is also a cornerstone of their relationship. "We acknowledge each other's differences and similarities also," San Jose added.

When asked about their Valentine's Day plans, San Jose admitted with a laugh, "We really don’t know what we're gonna do yet po." She described a perfect date as simply spending quality time together, be it a cozy movie night at home or a relaxed outing.

However, she hinted at the possibility of travel, noting that Yulo's birthday on Feb. 16 makes it an opportunity for a combined celebration.

Yulo, 24, is recognized as the most accomplished Filipino gymnast to date. He's the second Filipino to win an Olympic gold medal and the first to secure multiple Games golds for the country, snatching two in Paris last year.

San Jose, 22, is a talented singer with a popular YouTube channel boasting over 492,000 subscribers. In January 2021, she released the single "Aking Pagmamahal" (My Love), a heartfelt dedication to her gymnast boyfriend.

The couple's relationship began in April 2020 when San Jose reached out to Yulo on social media. Despite being separated by continents, with Yulo training in Japan and San Jose studying in Australia, they formed a strong connection that eventually blossomed into a romance.

They met in person for the first time at the 2022 SEA Games in Vietnam and have continued their relationship ever since.
