The winner of the 2024 AFF Cup will receive US$300,000 from the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), but the Vietnam national football team can get extra bonuses from the federation and sponsors.
The tournament, which begins on Dec. 9 and concludes on Jan. 5, 2025, will see the champions bringing home $300,000. The runner-up will earn $100,000, while the two semifinalists will each receive $50,000.
The $300,000 bonus for the champion has been in place since 2018. Vietnam were the first team to receive this prize money, claiming the title under coach Park Hang-seo in that year. Thailand have since won the last two tournaments. Prior to 2018, the champions were awarded $200,000 from 2012 to 2016.
In addition to the AFF Cup bonus, Vietnam national team could receive bonuses from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and sponsors. In the 2018 AFF Cup, VFF awarded coach Park Hang-seo and the team over $100,000 for progressing past the group stage, along with tens of billions of dong from sponsors after their title win.
The AFF Cup will be renamed the ASEAN Cup from this year. The 10 participating teams will be divided into two groups, playing two home and two away matches. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-place teams, will advance to the semifinals. From this stage, matches will be played over two legs, but away goals rule will not be applied.
Vietnam are in Group B with Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines and Myanmar. According to the schedule, the team will face Laos on Dec. 9, Indonesia on Dec. 15, the Philippines on Dec. 18 and Myanmar on Dec. 21.
