After five months of construction, the Hung Vuong Stadium, part of the new Olympic sports urban area in southern Hanoi, is progressing with infrastructure construction and foundation work.

The Hung Vuong Stadium is a key component of the Hanoi International Sports Urban Area, designed with a retractable roof, environment-friendly materials, and energy efficiency. Construction began on Dec. 19, 2025, with an estimated total investment of over VND925,600 billion (US$38 billion).

The stadium draws inspiration from the traditional Dong Son drums and the mythical Lac bird, aiming to host large-scale sports and cultural events.

The stadium covers over 3,118 hectares, spanning the communes of Thuong Tin, Tam Hung, Thuong Phuc and Dan Hoa in Hanoi.

The Hung Vuong Stadium covers approximately 73.3 hectares with a capacity of 135,000 seats according to international standards. If completed on its full scale, it will be the largest stadium in the world.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in the Motera area of Ahmedabad, India, has a capacity of 132,000 and is currently the largest stadium globally.

The Bukit Jalil Stadium within Malaysia's National Sports Complex in southern Kuala Lumpur, the biggest in Southeast Asia, has a maximum capacity of nearly 90,000, according to the International Olympic Committee.

One section of the grandstand has begun to show its seating steps after a period of construction.

The project is expected to be completed in mid-2027, setting a record for construction time and is anticipated to become a new symbol of Vietnamese sports.

In addition to the Hung Vuong Stadium, Zone B of the Olympic sports urban area also includes many large-scale projects such as the Global Aquatic Arena, the Vietnam Sports Tower and the E-Sports Arena.
