In an Instagram story shared by Jorginho in both Portuguese and English on Saturday, the 34-year-old player detailed what he described as a highly upsetting situation. He alleged that a security guard working for Roan unjustly accused his 11-year-old daughter of disrespecting and harassing the 28-year-old pop star while they were dining in the same restaurant.
According to Jorginho, his wife, Catherine Harding, and their family are currently in Brazil for the Lollapalooza music festival, where Roan is scheduled to perform. Although Jorginho didn’t name the daughter, reports said he was referring to 11-year-old Ada Law, whom Harding shares with her ex, actor Jude Law. The football star said his daughter had woken up incredibly excited to see an artist she admired and had even made a sign for the occasion, People reported.
By coincidence, the family was staying at the same hotel as the singer, the Palácio Tangará. Jorginho wrote that as Roan walked past their table during breakfast, his daughter simply recognized her and wanted to confirm it was really the pop star.
He emphasized that the child maintained her distance and didn’t even approach the singer. She merely walked past Roan's table, looked to confirm her identity, smiled and returned to her mother without saying a word or asking for an autograph.
The situation reportedly escalated shortly after. Jorginho claimed that a large security guard approached his family's table while they were still eating. The guard allegedly spoke in an extremely aggressive manner to Harding and her daughter, stating that the mother should not allow her child to disrespect or harass other people.
"Honestly, I don't know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment," Jorginho wrote, alleging that the security guard "even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears."
"My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot," he added.
Concluding his statement, Jorginho noted his disappointment with how the situation was handled.
"It's sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this," he wrote. "I sincerely hope this serves as a moment of reflection. No one should have to go through this, especially not a child."
Harding also reposted her husband’s statements, along with a picture of the fan sign her daughter had made referencing Roan’s hit song "Hot to go!".
Roan, has previously been an advocate for boundaries between herself, fans and paparazzi, and recently made headlines for calling out a group of photographers and fans outside a restaurant for harassment, Daily Mail reported.
Jorginho, who was born in Brazil but represents Italy at the national level, won the 2020 Euros with the team. He enjoyed a decorated career in European football, winning the 2021 Champions League and the 2019 Europa League with Chelsea. He also played for Arsenal and Napoli, among other clubs. He's currently playing for Brazilian club Flamengo.
He married Harding last year after four years of dating.
