After Sergio Ramos signed with Mexican club Monterrey, his wife, Spanish TV presenter Pilar Rubio, has decided not to join him in Mexico.

Ramos, a free agent since leaving Sevilla in mid-2024, returned to the pitch with Monterrey in a one-year deal, choosing to wear the number 93 jersey, a tribute to his iconic last-minute header goal that secured Real Madrid’s victory in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.

However, this move has created tension in his marriage. According to journalist Javi de Hoyos of Bild, Rubio made the decision to stay in Spain for her career.

"Someone close to Pilar told me that she was tired of moving around," De Hoyos said. "She went to Paris with him, then back to Seville, and now she has settled in Madrid for her career. She really likes it there."

Rubio is a famous reporter, TV host and model in Spain. Her decision to stay might be related to her being a judge on the popular show "El Desafío" and appearing on the reality competition "Maestros de la Costura Celebrity".

"When Ramos decided to go to Monterrey, Rubio said ‘I’ve given in twice, and I won’t give in this time’. She will remain in Madrid while Ramos heads to Mexico on his own. She cannot stand another relocation," De Hoyos added.

Rubio, 46, is eight years older than Ramos. The couple has been together since 2012 and married in 2019. They have four children: Sergio Jr, Marco, Alejandro and Máximo Adriano.

Ramos, who began his career in Sevilla’s academy, has had a decorated football journey. After one season with Sevilla’s first team (2004–2005), he joined Real Madrid, where he played 671 matches, scored 101 goals and won numerous trophies, including five La Liga titles and four Champions League. He later moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, winning two Ligue 1 titles and a French Super Cup before returning to Sevilla for the 2023–24 season. He's considered one of the best center-backs of all time.

Now at Monterrey, Ramos joins one of Mexico's top clubs, which will compete in the expanded version of FIFA Club World Cup this summer. Monterrey has been drawn into group E alongside River Plate, Urawa Red Diamonds and Inter Milan.
