A crushing 0-3 defeat against Sukhothai FC in the final round of the national championship on Sunday evening sealed the club's fate, leaving them in 14th place.

This relegation snaps a proud 17-year stint in the top division, when Muangthong United established themselves as the modern icon of Thai football.

The club won four Thai League titles in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2016, and secured two League Cups.

They also made a significant mark on the Asian stage by reaching the knockout rounds of the 2017 AFC Champions League.

But their campaign this year has been plagued by lack of vitality in the offense and constant defense mistakes.

With only 27 goals scored and 52 conceded, the team managed six wins and eight draws while suffering a staggering 16 defeats, finishing the season with just 26 points from 30 matches, according to Thairath.
