Lee Nguyen, a former Vietnamese-American midfielder, has been named assistant coach of Seattle Reign FC ahead of the 2025 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in the U.S.

Seattle Reign FC officially announced Lee's appointment on Feb. 21 and completed their coaching staff.

"I’m honored to join Seattle Reign FC and be a part of this globally respected and established club," said Lee on Seattle Reign website. "This is an organization known for its high standards, competitive spirit and incredible culture, and I’m excited to contribute to the team’s success. I can’t wait to get started and work alongside this talented group."

Seattle Reign head coach Laura Harvey said: "We’re thrilled to add Lee to our coaching staff and bring his experience to the Reign.

"With more than two decades in the game as both a player and a coach, he brings valuable insight and quality to our group."

Lee was born in 1986 to a Vietnamese father and a Vietnamese-American mother. He developed his football career in the U.S. before heading to Europe, where he played for PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands, 2006–2008) and Randers (Denmark, 2008–2009). He later moved to Vietnam, playing for Hoang Anh Gia Lai and Becamex Binh Duong from 2009 to 2011, but struggled to find success.

Lee made his mark upon returning to the U.S., excelling at New England Revolution (2012–2018), where he played 191 matches, scored 51 goals and was called up to the U.S. national team. He later played for Los Angeles FC (2018–2019) scoring 3 goals in 58 matches and Inter Miami in 2020 before rejoining New England Revolution.

In 2021, he returned to Vietnam to play for HCMC FC, scoring 5 goals in 9 matches in the V-League 2021, though the season was canceled due to Covid-19.

Lee transitioned into coaching in 2021, serving as an assistant coach for Washington Spirit, helping them win the NWSL championship that year. After a brief return to play for HCMC in 2022, he resumed his coaching career with Kansas City (2023) and Angel City (2024) before joining Seattle Reign. This marks his fifth season in the NWSL.
